In the first half of Aaron’s life, he grew up on his family farm and helped his family by putting in long hours and physical labor, day in and day out. Although he attended school, he struggled with reading and writing because he was dyslexic.
As an adult, Aaron struggled to earn enough income to provide for his basic needs. He worked various odd jobs to make money because he was not successful in gaining full time employment due to his barriers in his reading and writing skills.
In February 2017, Aaron contacted the Central Arkansas Workforce Center in Conway and Bobby Strobel, One-Stop Center Manager, established a plan for him to gain the knowledge and skills to become an asset to future employers. Aaron’s services included Resume Building, Job Readiness Training, Interviewing Skills Training, and Pre-employment Transition Services. In addition, he participated in the Work Experience program where he gained helpful work experience to develop the skills needed to be successful in the workplace.
As a result, Aaron gained full time employment with exceptional benefits at the worksite he worked at through the Work Experience program. In the end, Aaron was able to overcome his obstacles and effectively developed the basic skills to obtain employment. The interviewing and resume building techniques he learned contributed to his full time employment.
Overall, Aaron was thankful for the opportunity and now understands his disability does not hold him back from being a great worker.
