Attempting to meet financial and family obligations and desiring for a great job opportunity, single mom Rickena Sampson decided she would work and go to school full-time. However, struggling to balance family, school, and work she became overwhelmed and began to have a moment of doubt. In July 2017, Rickena took a huge step and contacted the Arkansas Workforce Center in Conway to inquire about what services were available to help her succeed at completing her degree.
After she was approved to participate in the WIOA Adult Program, Bobby Strobel, Jr, One-Stop Center Manager, provided services and helped Rickena develop a plan which defined goals required for her to complete her career path in the health industry.
Removing some of the financial hardships, she diligently pursued her education and on June 11, 2018, she completed her training and received her degree in Practical Nursing from Baptist Health College in Little Rock, AR.
Despite her obstacles, Rickena remained hopeful, pushed forward, and is now working at Heritage Living Center as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
