After being unsuccessful at obtaining sustainable long term employment, Josh Summitt realized he needed to pursue a new career that would allow him to grow within a company, receive a greater return on the quality of his work, and have a job that he enjoyed!
So after receiving and reading a brochure from the University of Arkansas Community Outreach, Josh learned about an amazing new software development school that could be an opportunity for a future career. Shortly after he visited with the Arkansas Coding Academy and learned about the curriculum and the tuition rates to attend. Feeling discouraged, he knew he was not able to cover the cost of the program without scholarships or additional assistance.
To his surprise, the University of Central Arkansas Outreach and the Arkansas Coding Academy connected Josh with the resources and programs offered through the Arkansas Workforce Center in Conway. In November of 2018, Josh enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult Program and received personalized services and Occupational Skills Training, which assisted with his tuition cost to attend the Arkansas Coding Academy program.
After beginning his thirteen week training for a new career in the software development industry in January of 2019, he obtained his certificate in coding and two weeks later accepted a position working for J.B. Hunt as a Software Engineer making $32.00/hour.
Navigating and excelling through his new career, Josh believes with hard work and motivation anyone can make their dreams become a reality.
