Struggling to find employment, recent high school graduate, Gabriel Beaston, enrolled in the 2017 Summer Youth Employment Opportunity Program.
Moreover, prior to his enrollment in the program, he had no previous work experience, no interview skills, and no confidence that he would be able to attain employment.
Accordingly, after the referral from Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, Bobby Strobel, Jr, OneStop Center Manager at the Central Arkansas Workforce Center in Conway, assisted Gabriel in gaining the skills to become an asset to himself and future employers. Prior to receiving a job assignment, Gabriel participated in the Job Readiness Training Activity and learned skills such as Resume Building, Interviewing Skills Training, and Dressing for Success.
After completion of this activity, he enrolled in the Work Experience Program where he gained helpful work experience at a local worksite, TJ Maxx. While completing his work experience, Gabriel learned the significance of a professional appearance and believed he was making a positive transformation in his career.
He had a sense of achievement, and even felt comfortable around his supervisors and co-workers. Excelling in his job duties and responsibilities, Gabriel was offered full-time employment as a Sales Associate at TJ Maxx in November 2017, which he happily accepted.
Overall, Gabriel is appreciative for the opportunity Central Arkansas Workforce Development Area provided and encourages other people struggling to find employment to participate in the program. Even more, Gabriel now has the experience and confidence to get the job and keep it.
