At just 20 years old, Shakevia Washington is already proving that determination and hard work can open doors to success.
After graduating from high school, Shakevia set her sights on joining the workforce but faced a common challenge—finding employment without any prior work experience.
Despite early setbacks, Shakevia remained focused on her goals and sought opportunities to build her skills and confidence. She joined the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) Work Experience program, where she received valuable guidance, training, and support to help her prepare for future employment.
With encouragement and persistence, Shakevia took the next step toward her dreams by enrolling at Arkansas State University–Beebe, furthering her education and career prospects. Her efforts soon paid off when she secured a position at City Market, gaining hands-on experience and a sense of independence that she had been striving for.
Shakevia’s journey is a powerful example of how resilience and commitment can turn challenges into stepping stones for success. Her story serves as an inspiration to other young adults who are navigating the path from school to meaningful employment.
