This Success Corner shines a well-deserved spotlight on Chasity Pettus, a determined young woman from North Little Rock who took charge of her future with help from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Shortly after graduating from high school, Chasity visited the North Little Rock Workforce Center with one goal in mind: to start building a career. Inspired by the experiences of friends who had used WIOA services, she decided to explore how the Workforce Center could help her grow and succeed.

After a personalized assessment, Chasity was enrolled in the Out-of-School Youth Program, which offers customized services for young adults looking to gain skills and find stable employment. Recognizing the importance of a strong academic foundation, the staff also referred Chasity to Adult Education classes to boost her math and reading skills, essential tools for long-term success.

In addition to her academic development, Chasity received hands-on job search assistance and career guidance from Workforce Center staff. Their joint efforts paid off: Chasity secured a full-time position as an Office Assistant with the City of North Little Rock Electric Department, earning $15.78 per hour.

Her success hasn’t gone unnoticed. Supervisors from the North Little Rock Water Department had high praise for her performance:

“Chasity is a quick learner and a joy to work with. She is mature beyond her years.”— Terrell & Nicki, Supervisors, NLR Water

Chasity’s journey is a powerful example of how WIOA services—combined with personal drive and community support—can open doors to promising careers. From education to employment, her experience highlights the life-changing impact of workforce development programs in central Arkansas.
