JAMIE STACKER'S SUCCESS STORY

Jamie is a 2016 graduate of Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. After graduation, she struggled to find employment due to her insufficient work experience, only having one job for three months in high school, and thought her resume hindered her from finding a job.

Friends directed Jamie to visit the Workforce Center to learn about what services were available to help her be successful in her job search. Jamie was eligible to participate in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program.

The Arkansas Workforce Center provided various services and training including job search assessment and Work Experience and enabled her to obtain the skills needed to obtain employment. After less than a month into the program, a job opening at Shorter College for an Administrative Assistant became available. Although Jamie did not have clerical experience, the Workforce Center Career Consultants assisted her on reformatting her resume, focusing on her qualifications, affiliations, honors, scholarships, rewards, and relevant course training.

Jaime secured the Administrative Assistant for Institutional Effectiveness/Assessment Information Technology & Communications position at Shorter College with Dr. Middleton February 2017.

During a follow-up visit with Jamie, she said she loves working with the staff at Shorter College and is now studying for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) in preparation to begin graduate school where her major field of study will be Anesthesiology.
