From aspiring nurse to certified caregiver: Emily Duhon takes the first step toward her dream career

Emily Duhon: Taking the First Step Toward Her Dream Career

When Emily Duhon first visited the Workforce Center, she was unemployed and seeking support to launch her career journey. Her goal was clear — to pursue training that would lead her toward her dream of becoming a nurse.

In February, Emily enrolled in the Adult Program, where she received a range of career services, including basic career guidance, information about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), supportive services information, and a referral to Adult Education for additional resources.

Through WIOA funding, Emily was able to attend Occupational Skills Training in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Her dedication paid off when she successfully earned her Certified Nurse’s Aide license on October 14, 2025.

Shortly after completing her training, Emily secured permanent employment with Homewell Care Services as a Caregiver, earning $14.00 per hour.

Reflecting on her journey, Emily shared,

“Coming to the Workforce Center has helped me to take the first step to attaining my dream career, which is nursing.”

Emily’s story is a powerful example of how determination, paired with the right support and resources, can open the door to new opportunities and brighter futures.
